View from the Room: Leeds Marriott Hotel

The Leeds Marriot is bang in the middle of this bustling city where I am celebrating my birthday in for the second time in 3 years.

The Leeds version of Marriot delivers modern service in a wonderful traditional building. We treated ourselves to a larger executive room which gave us the key to a lounge and its complimentary drinks. It’s different to the Hilton Exec Rooms in that everyone I’ve stayed in has the lounge on the same floor as the rooms. Also, they have hot food snacks too. The Marriot’s had a compact lounge for drinks and small snacks right off the reception area. It came in most handy when we were waiting for our room to be ready, having already spent a couple of hours exploring the city.

The only downside is although we didn’t hear a peek from inside the hotel, my birthday did fall over a weekend so the first night was slightly blighted by hearing the all-night club from over the road. That’s the drawback of staying in a beautiful old low building rather than a modern tower. Note to self, if the birthday falls on the weekend, don’t stay in a city.

The room greets us with a large comfortable bed and the two side tables have those rare things in hotels, drawers. Plus a desk with 2 more drawers and a chair, coffee table with one easy chair. There’s good lighting, added to by the ample light from the windows.

The bathroom is a good size with bath tub and detachable shower - just the set-up I like. It has 2 bath and 2 hand towels, a spare loo roll and plenty of storage space.

The toiletries are from This Works with full-sized shampoo, conditioner and shower gel attached to the wall and a soap holder. Also waiting for us is a shower cap, soap bar, a vanity kit and a mini This Works body lotion plus a rare mini mouthwash. Sadly, it's not refillable, but a nice touch.

 Storage

Apart from the wardrobe with its 10+ proper removable wooden hangers and shelf, there is a double cupboard upon which sits the TV, the aforementioned bedside tables and drawers plus a good-sized desk and drawers. There’s also room along the window wall. It's a shame we were only staying 2 nights as the room is spacious enough for a day several days.

For refreshments, there are 2 solid drinking glasses, 2 mugs, a kettle, instant hot drinks and the hotel classic, Borders biscuits
