Stockholm: Birthday 2014

Stockholm: Birthday 2014

There are two main influences in Stockholm, and it seems obvious now, but I thought Abba and Ikea were clichés. But no, even as a non-Ikea fan, I recognised Ikea all over the apartment we were staying in the city.

I tentatively planned to go to the Abba museum but only in a when in Rome kind of way, not because I have always wanted to. However, they made it kind of difficult to go; it's cashless place so we would have incurred charges paying on card and the didn't accept PayPal. We just about could stomach that but then we had to book a time in for our slot and I prefer to be a less rigid, especially on holiday! We did happen to walk past though so spot the imposter in the above line-up!

We did go to a lovely old-school - well, there are so many of them - café up the road from the museum and had the delightful little cakes the #SmileyLittleDude (AKA @NotMorph) is presiding over in the photo. Stockholm being on a series of waterways, we came to this island on a bus and went back on a boat and passed a castle like structure on route.

Love this about Vancouver too, not the castles which are distinctly lacking, but that water just makes moving around more fun!

Oh and the word 'ABBA' appeared all over the place, connected or not. My favourite was the Abba fish!

We were promised deer walking up to our window at the apartment but no amount of me staring out of the bedroom window with my morning coffee prompted them to sayhello. Of course that was the only time we spent in the apartment in daylight so I guess they came when we were out all day!
