View from the Room: Hilton, Stockholm

This is the last time we’re going to stay in a luxury hotel for just one night. It has been a short-lived tradition starting with the breathtaking Kempinski at the end of 2019 and Sweden’s only Hilton in late 2022. In future, I’ll insist on 2 nights.  Or the whole trip, ideally. We finally get to a hotel with ample storage space at the end of the week and we don’t need to unpack much.

I’ve mentioned my love of Hilton before since the fantastic experience in Halifax, Canada in 2016. If you book a certain level of room, you have drinks and refreshments - practically meals sometimes in the Executive Lounge. The experience is worth every penny and the hotel room is always spacious and well laid out.

Located overlooking the water and by a train station,  the warmest of welcomes followed by a stunning view greets us in late December.

This is a large modern hotel with plenty of lounge space to wait for whatever/whoever you need to wait for. There are grand sweeping staircases everywhere I look and the loos are down one of these. Great for us as we arrived in the morning and just needed to freshen up and drop off our cases until our room was ready upon our return.

The bed is large and comfy, with the standard European two duvets with the large TV on the wall opposite.

There are actual drawers which I find lacking in so many hotels. Sadly we only needed one of the 4 deep ones for our one night. There’s an armchair and footstool - like my reading chair at home, although mine doesn’t look out to views of the river. In addition, there is an office chair with a dining table and 2 bedside tables.

Facilities

  • Slippers and robes

  • Fridge

  • Expresso pod machine

  • Kettle and sachets of tea and coffee all of which roll out of the cupboard on a tray

  • 2 mugs and 2 glasses and I think there’s an ice bucket

  • 2 complimentary bottles of water (which we didn’t need as we found a water machine along our corridor)

  • Safe

  • Iron and board

  • Hairdryer and paper laundry bags

There are plenty of proper wooden hangers, shelves, and rails in the large wardrobe plus hooks in the bathroom and by the front door. A big plus!

A beautiful marble bathroom with plenty of space where the basin is modelled on the grand staircase.

  • Washing line

  • Plenty of bath towels on a heated towel rail plus some face towels.

  • Sanitary bags and tissues

  • Full-sized hand wash and body lotion plus the same for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel attached to the bath wall.

  • A comfortable bathtub has a large handheld shower attachment, essential for rinsing the bath after use.

  • There seem to be ample plug points, mirrors and lights.

As well as the two options in the room, our room gave us access to the Executive Lounge which had hot and cold drinks from 12 plus savoury and sweet snacks. In the late afternoon, the happy hour brings hot snacks.  Before heading out to dinner, I enjoyed the soup and a glass of wine. However, an alternative would be to have a good lunch and enjoy hot snacks as a light early supper.

Then there’s breakfast. Possibly the finest we’ve experienced all year.

I’m a sucker for an egg station and here they had someone making omelettes in front of you after you have selected your ingredients in a bowl. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a rarely-seen waffle machine and I enjoyed both.

The service in the breakfast room is as friendly as it is everywhere in the hotel.

A superb hotel.
