View from the Room - Hotel Hor Les Lumieres, Paris

There is so much to see in Paris, a city of two million people, it doesn’t matter too much where you base yourself. So the welcoming Hor Les Lumieres on a side street in the 11th Arrondissement nestled between Parmentier & Oberkampf stations is a pretty good choice. We were especially pleased to find this as our original hotel (Ibis Styles, if you’re interested) let us down just 4 days prior when they stated they could only allocate a twin room (we’d booked a double) with a shower only (we’d booked a bath). It’s a good job I always check.

As with thousands of Parisian hotel rooms, it is compact and every effort has been made to maximize storage space. There are two sets of floor to ceiling windows opening out to the street. We had two twin beds put together with separate bedding so we did have to get up and push them back together at intervals.

  • There’s a handy dropdown table attached to one wall which we needed up permanently

  • Two wardrobe areas holding 14 quality wooden hangers and the obligatory fold up clothes airer

  • There are no drawers so just the base of the hanging area to keep your undies plus shelves above and below space

  • Two bedside tables

  • A small seat

The bathroom is small and therefore on the dark side although with a good mirror plus abother just outside.

  • Two large and two small towels and bathmat

  • Detachable shower over small bath

  • Four plastic glasses

  • Shower gel and shampoo bottles

  • Solid soap

  • Hairdryer

  • Tissues

The room had power sockets in all the convenient places with two easily mirrors reachable when styling hair. The full-length mirror is very handy to have outside the bathroom. The lighting was pretty good with a fabulous overhead fitting, a light the length of the headboard plus what now seems the hotel standard, flexible mini, bedside spotlights.

Refreshments

Two complimentary bottles of water

There’s a kettle in the room with initial coffee/milk so just need to ask in reception for top ups

In addition there is complimentary coffee available 24/6 in reception anyway. One night, when there wasn’t any milk handy staff kindly popped to the kitchen to make us some fresh coffee.

Facilities

A decent sized mini fridge is very handy. Plus there’s a safe, the TVs up high on the wall and free Wi-Fi that worked every time. We barely needed the air con as room was a good temperature already

The hotel has one small lift although we never needed to wait. The rooms seem sound proofed as we never heard a sound from the hallway, and we know we had neighbours through sharing a lift with them

Service

Reception is open 24/7 although they keep the front door locked through the night.

We received a warm welcome every time we went through reception. One evening, they just made us a coffee from the breakfast room rather than us using the pod machine in reception.
